Found a penny...

Rolling Penny
583A King Street, Newtown
Sydney, NSW

This place is a true gem within Newtown. My husband and myself were pleasantly surprised. The menu was straight forward; taking old school dishes and adding that modern twist, But it was tolerable. I am not huge on overly fancy food especially if it's not going to fill me up! Simple yet super tasty is perfect for me. Wished I captured my husbands reaction when he took his first bite of his meal. After a long time he was so happy with what he ordered! Also we both couldn't stop humming along to the awesome playlist.

In short it is worth checking this place out... It definitely took me back to Melbourne.

(will update this post with more photos when we go there again for sure!)

BACON, CELERY & CHEESE BAKE

I turned this savoury  muffin recipe into a bake because I didn't have a muffin tray around. Also replaced the bacon with chipolatas. Always fun to try different ingredients and of course you could make this vegetarian and add left over roast vegetables. Whatever you prefer/or have in your fridge or pantry.

Sorry for the hideous photo... hubs just destroyed my creation before I got the chance to take a photo...

The Coffee Club,
Royal Randwick Shopping Centre,
K11/73 Belmore Rd,
 Randwick NSW 2031

This was my go to cafe when I was pregnant. After my appointments I would come here and enjoy a tea and a preg safe meal (usually ordered an omelette or scramble eggs) whilst my husband finished his gym.

Dukes Lounge,
153 Avoca St,
Randwick NSW 2031

Asides being stingy on the toast, this place is another decent place around busy Randwick.

Molly Coddle Cafe,
3/612-622 King St,
Newtown NSW 2042

Awesome Breakfast and lunch menu and they serve Filipino dishes aswell. Awesome range of dishes and great coffee and lovely selection of juices. The way the cafe is designed, an awesome breeze comes through,
perfect on those warmer days. Very nice service.

Chill Sunday - Dinner at Corelli's, Newtown.
Correlli's
352 King Street, Newtown
Sydney

If you want a cup of coffee or some cafe food past the usual annoying cafe closing times (hate how early cafes close here) then this place is a go to! Open everyday 7 AM -12 AM!! Finally a place I can go with my little family for a late meal and or coffee! Decent place.

Our Sunday Newtown ritual.

Recently we got back to doing our Sunday lunch dates (we began doing this early January last year when I was pregnant) or atleast get out of the house and do some exploring for an hr or 2 without the baby. It's a great time for me to recharge. As much as I love my little owl, it is nice and important to have a little break here and there. Grabbed a green juice from 'Molly Coddle' Cafe in Newtown whilst hubs got coffees. Fun fact: Newtown was the location of Coldplay's 'Sky Full of Stars' music video. Yes. Envy all the people who got to see them and be featured in their video!!!

Take care,

HOMEMADE MEAT PIE

Perfect Homemade Meat Pie
(Recipe I found from a Woolworth's catalogue)

Prep Time: 80 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes
Serves 4

2 Tbsp olive oil
500g beef rump steak, diced
2 medium brown onions, finely diced
150g button mushrooms, sliced
1 tbsp of fresh rosemary leaves
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp plain flour
2 ½ cups beef stock
Salt and pepper
¼ cup fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves, chopped
1 cup frozen peas
1 sheet of shortcrust pastry, thawed
1 sheet of butter puff pastry, thawed
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp milk

Method
1.Heat oil in a heavy based frying pan over a medium heat, add the beef and cook for 4-5 minutes until browned. Add onion and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring often, until soft. Add mushrooms, rosemary, tomato paste and flour, stir to combine and cook for a further 2 minutes. Add beef stock and bring to the boil. Season with salt and pepper, reduce heat and simmer for 60 minutes or until beef is tender. Stir through parsley and peas and allow to cool.

2.Preheat oven to 200ºC. Line a 23cm wide by 3 ½ cm deep pie dish with shortcrust pastry, add filling then top with the puff pastry. Trim edges and secure pastry by pressing down edges firmly using a fork. Mix egg yolk and milk together and brush over pastry. Pierce the top of the pie and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden.

Enjoy!!

Recipe: Sausage Rolls

After being so over store bought tasteless sausage rolls (with that grey mixture that is not appetizing at all!) wanted to make it at home. This recipe was perfect! Love that it incorporates vegetables and herbs which adds colour and of course lots of flavour!

Sausage Rolls (Source: Alive And Cooking)

Ingredients

500g minced pork
500g minced veal
1 brown onion, finely chopped
2 carrots, grated
2 sticks of celery,finely chopped
¼ bunch of curly parsley finely chopped
Salt and pepper
2 eggs
4 sheets of pastry

Method

Mix together the pork, veal, onion, carrot, celery and parsley then stir in the salt and the pepper and 1 egg. Divide the mixture into 4 and evenly distribute the mixture along the length of the pastry sheets. Brush with egg wash, then simply roll and crimp together; score lines on the surface of the pastry about 5cm apart then brush the rolls with egg wash.

Place on a lined baking tray and bake at 200ºC for 25-30 minutes.

Enjoy!

First taste: Botanica Cold Pressed Juice

This was a couple of months ago; wasn't feeling so great health wise. But thanks to my sweet husband; he bought this juice for me.

Must say it was the best store bought juice I have ever had. It was fresh, simple and free from preservatives! The way one would want their juice.  Perfect if you are on the run and don't have enough time to make your own.

It was just what I needed. Felt much better afterwards.

There are three other juices to choose from: 'Bondi Beach' (Pineapple, carrot, ginger and lemon), 'Citrus Spice' (Lemon oils, natural Mexican agave and Cayenne pepper) and 'Sweet Beetroot' (Beetroot (41%),carrot,celery,ginger,red apple and lemon)

The only bad thing I have to say (which will effect only some) is that ..
It may contain nuts!!

I was shaking,I could barely eat any of that cake (dw I had some when I got home and it was just yummy! :3). I was just in utter shock. I mind just couldn't process what was happening. Surrounded by our friends... it was just beautiful.. (so underrated) I can't thank them enough for taking part of this momentous occasion. Truly grateful! Much love.

Look out for more posts... (loads of catch up posts also) of my many wonderful food adventures before and after this wonderful moment.

Bread Pudding

Such a easy dessert to make;great way to use left over stale bread. Here's the recipe I used.

Ingredients

6 slices day-old bread ( I used raisin bread; just whatever stale bread you have laying about)
2 tbsp melted butter
1/2 cup of raisins (Optional)
4 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
3/4 cup white sugar (personally prefer using brown sugar)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Break bread into small pieces into an 8 inch square baking pan. Drizzle melted butter or margarine over bread. If desired, sprinkle with raisins.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Beat until well mixed. Pour over bread, and lightly push down with a fork until bread is covered and soaking up the egg mixture.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the top springs back when lightly tapped

ENJOY!!
